A brief explanation of the name of the band:
'Never Mind The Bocs'

(a) a reference to a certain Sex Pistols album- while not a punk band, we are keen to take chances and move Welsh traditional music forward!

(b) the bocs ('box' in English- i.e. squeezebox or accordion) is not given the same status in the Welsh tradition as the harp, fiddle, crwth, pibgorn, etc. We want to change this...

(c) we like to avoid easy categorisation- for example, we mix modern and traditional approaches, sing in Welsh and English, etc.

It's simply inaccurate to say that accordions were not used in the tradition in Wales- there are pictures to prove it. Also, a while ago we were given a small one-row button accordion by Nia Roberts. She told us it was played by her father, Iorweth Hedd Williams, at many a Noson Lawen (Welsh folk evening) in Dolgellau in the 1940s and 50s.

It's in C, and is a splendid little example of the sort of small box that was very common at that time. It still works; we are determined to record it on our next album!
